Angled pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
Just a quick question, purely for personal interest.

I've seen a few basses (most recently Warwicks but also several others) that have angled pickups. If you haven't seen these what I mean is that either a J or a $ pickup is placed so that rather than crossing the strings at a right angle it is twisted slightly.

I understand that this is done to alter the sound that is picked up. For example, if the bottom (by the highest string) of the pickup is closer to the neck than the the top then you get slightly less 'zing' off the highest strings and a more even sound.

What I've been wondering is this: with an angled pickup the distance between the middle of the highest and lowest strings will be further than usual. Are different, longer pickups with repositioned poll pieces use to cope with this or are they just standard pickups placed in a 'best fit' type way.

Hope I've made this clear.

Cheers

Not sure about your question, but the angled p/ups on the Roscoe LG 3005 work beautifully.

He's asking if the angled PU's are different models than the straight ones because of the size of them.

And no, I dunno.

Edit: ya beat me to it lol

He's asking if the space between the pole pieces on an angled pickp up is a greater distance than that of a regularly positioned pickup. Something, I've been wondering aswell.

are there angled pups w/ poll pieces? i assumed they (manufacturer) would use non poll style. i haven't used poll types in ages, so i can't line up a spare on my thumb to check re: alignment issues...
