Annoying popping sound

I have a MIM 04 Fender Jazz i love this bass but this one problem is reallt annoying me. You see when i play i really like digging in w/ my fingers..playing real rough when i do that my strings hit the pickups and it makes this really annoying popping sound...it does this when i slap too and it really gets on my nerves... Is there anyway i can fix this problem???

sorry if this has be covered a million times but im in a hurry and dont have time to search

when i lower the pickups i loose the volume that i like..and some of the low end that i have T.T

but then it doesn't sound aggressive and wont work to well for my grunge/heavy rock/metal band D:


man i have a lot of complaints :O

would active pickup fix it, i mean the string wouldnt be hitting any of the magnetic polls then?? just a thought cause i have thought about putting some active pickups in ut

It's still a technique thing, learn to control your picking.

but would active pickups fix it??? i know they would probably help me cut through the mix of my band which right now isn't the easiest thing...and ive been looking into it

I used to have the same problem, then adjusted my technique, and the problem went away. Mostly, it's a matter of pulling across the strings instead of pushing them into the pickups.

Pickups without exposed pole pieces help, but ultimately, it's a technique issue.
