Hi, I haven't posted here in ages. A few years back I bought a Carvin XB76PF (extended scale neck, 6 string, piezo bridge, fretless). I used to play through a Hartke rig, and now I play through an Eden Nemesis. I've always hated the tone of the bass. My Ibanez Soundgear 4 string sounds better and was a quarter of the price. The bass looks great and is constructed well, but I can't put up with the tone.
These are the soapbar pickups currently installed: http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/SPB http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/SPN
I was wondering what my options were for replacement. I was thinking Bartolini since that seems to be the gold standard. It looks like the dimensions of the P2 would fit (http://www.bartolini.net/information..._bass_pu_s.htm
) Also, I take it I'd have to replace the electronics, as well, correct? If all that adds up to a few hundred it seems it would make more sense to sell the bass and buy something else, eh? Anyone have experience with the P2, and which would be the ones to get, the regular or split coil?
In any event, the current pickups sound like I'm playing through a cheap chorus pedal. My ideal tone would be something darker, less tinny, and more mwah like Gary Willis or Steve Bailey. These are also a couple of good examples:
