Another Dumb Preamp Q, 2 or 3 band?

Sign in to disble this ad
As I have bored everyone ont heis forum before, I plan on changing the preamp in my Brice HXB 406. The bass just feels SO dang confortable when I put it on, I don;t think I'll ever give it up.
But it sounds a bit lackin gin the output department.
It currently has a 2 band EQ, and I thought about just swapping it out for another 2 band like the Bart 4.5 for a basic 4 hole 2-pup setup.

But then I was looking around and see they also offer a 4 hole 3 band pre, Vol, Blend, Mid and stacked Bass/treb; the 4.6

I don't care for an active push/pull switch. I never use passive mode, ever.

So, is the 3 band pre worth the extra $30?
Anyone have experience with the Bart preamps?
Sound?

If you don't spend the extra $30 you will never know. And you will always ask yourself the question again when things don't sound as good as you think they should.

How about a 3 band Audere ? I really like having the mid on board - I use that control more than either the bass or treble. The z-mode switch is awsome. Seeing as you have a 4 knob setup now, you could configure it as Vol, Blend & Mid on separate knobs and a stacked B&T.

Stacked B&T is kinda cool. If you grab 'the stack' in the middle, you can boost both or cut both - cutting both is an apparent increase in mid (cut through) while dropping apparent volume - or play with them independantly. I'm getting the hang of that - it seems useful ...

Maybe you also need to drill for the z-mode. I also popped a 1/8th hole in the side, down by the jack and mounted the battery life indicator there.

Mine is in a G&L Tribute L2500, strung E through C. Really a fun bass to play.
