Another J-PUP Question!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a '98 MIM J-bass and want to upgrade my PUPs. My tech suggested going active. I've never played active PUPs before. Now, I've read all of the J-PUP threads here, and I'm still not sure what to do. I play hard rock ( vintage Sabbath, Kiss, AC/DC, '80s H-metal--- no thrash or grunge). I'm "stay at home", I just want a nice punch and smooth bottom end (no face-melters from this guy!). I don't want to be dominant, but I do want to cut through and not be lost in the mix. I just wonder if any of you play the same stuff and have made the transition. I have an Ampeg '71 V4B head and 1540e cab. Please don't crucify me for repeating these threads!

FWIW:

if you've read all the threads then you should have it narrowed down to a few pups. Probably any pups guys have consistently described as "aggressive" would be candidates. Choosing pups is as much about eliminating what you don't want as what you do want.

Dimarzio model J's probably will suffice - and they're cheap used (especially now).

There’s a bass mod link in the first paragraph of this thread that may be useful:
