Another "What pickups should I get?" Thread

Sign in to disble this ad
So on friday I got a new SX SPJ57, and while the pickups are decent, it leaves alot to be desired, just as it was with my SST, but not quite so bad.

Back in the day when I used to creep on TB all the time under a different name, I had it all planned out, and knew every single brand and combination of PJ's you probably could (except maybe vintage vibe), but now it's been a while since I've been on here and would like some suggestions for a good, matched PJ set, and your opinions/descriptions on them. One with equal (or almost) equal output, with a traditional fender tone, i want all the balls, low-end, girth and grit a P bass can muster, can be as aggressive and mellow as you want them to be, without sounding muddy and cuts through butter (I know half of you are gonna recommend model P's when i say that, but I want pickups that sound good by themselves, and from what i've heard, dimarzio Model J's and P's dont)

What I have in my head so far is Fralins, Nordstrands, Vintage Vibe, GFS (the jazz and P are matched in output, almost, closest I could find to each other so far), and possibly fenders. Also looked at Rio Grande's but i have absolutely no experience with them.

Here's the bass lookin to be tinkered with

You mentioned great pickups. My vote goes for Fralin just because I use their JJ's and like them a lot...
