Question Any ideas what is causing this?

I have a Nordy vJ5 with Dual Coils and a John East modular preamp installed. Overall I haven't been overly impressed with the pre but earlier tonight while playing I happened to tap the top of the volume knob with my finger and got a really loud POP through my cabinet. After this happened I decided to adjust back on what I think is the treble control and I get another nasty POP that was so loud it made me jump! Fearing damage to my cabinet I turn the volume way down and turn the treble knob again and still get the same loud snap!!!!
Any ideas what would cause this? I checked the wiring and there are no loose wires and it has a brand new battery. I also took out my Sadowsky MV4 and played it through my cabinet with no issues at all so I'm pretty sure it all resides in the electronics in the Nordy.

Lastly, does anyone know what pre will fit in a Nordy that does not have the rear rout?
Thanks,

Not sure, but it seems like a ground issue or a faulty pot.

Definitely sounds like something is loose on the electronics. Is there a battery in the cavity? Sometimes the battery can shift around and short things out. It could be something loose that isn't obvious. Sometimes wires can look fine but the core can be damaged. If you can't find a problem then maybe send John East an email. Or, take it to a tech.

We use the Audere preamp and if you're interested it should just drop in. I'm pretty sure that when that bass was modded with the East that a side jack was added, so you could use one of the side jack versions of the Audere (we like the one with the passive tone).

Hope that helps and feel free to contact us directly if you need more help or have any other questions.

Sounds like an earth issue.
