Any wireless recommendation?

Just curious if any of yall had a recommendation for a wireless system. I looking to get one soon, and I don't have one that I'm eye balling yet.

I have a recommendaion,don't get one, unless you're really going to stray more than 20 feet in any direction onstage... that being said, I hear the AKG guitarbug works well.

The industry standard is pretty much the Sennheiser EW172 G2. Working sound for a 3 band show, each band with two guitarists and a bassist, I saw seven of those systems. Two of the three bassists were on cables.

Also, X-Wire is coming back in 2007. They designed the technology that is utilized in the EW172-G2.

I've a degree in electrical engineering and this one's spec works for me, the bodypack is metal, it uses AA cells(batteries to some folks), and you're not stuck on one frequency. If you get one, make SURE(!!!) you call the pocket protector guys/gals at Sennheiser Tech Support and ask them which frequency band would work best for you(where you're going to play). But hey, the low-buck, fast-selling online BIG NAME stores didn't know what I was talking about and had some they'd be GLAD to sell me ASAP. No, they didn't know the frequency range(they didn't know squat). I called Sennheiser back to find out WHO in the U.S. had C-Band ones in stock(!) and they told me how to ID them. Then I got one. I don't like umbilical cords and I HATE cheap wireless systems that crap out or make a good bass sound like junk. The Sennheiser is worth every penny. With a full band playing, I cannot hear a difference between this wireless and a cable and I doubt anyone else can. At home in a very quiet room, the gate(adjustable) is barely audible...not noisy...you can just hear it working(closing) on the end of a note after it fades to nearly inaudible level.

Maybe the X2. These may be the X-wire folks returning....

I just ordered the Shure ULXP series wireless. I use 5 string and wanted a metal casing etc. I was thinking of waiting for the new x-wire wireless, but I've heard such great things about the Shure ULX series that I just bit the bullet and ordered mine from Norther Sound and Lights.

Allright now for my next question. I do like the Shure PGX14, and so does my guitarist. Is setting them both up on different channels so that we do not pick up each others frequency easy? And do they have many problems with "dead spots" on stage?

I bought the same one from NSL. I forgot who I spoke but he was really helpful and he got the order out immediately. Their price is also about the best you'll find.

I didn't really need it and it was an odd thing to GAS over but since it would make things easier for me at the jam and recording sessions I occassionally do I bought it. I think it sounds great, it does a great job covering the full range of my 5 strings, and though I'm never too far from the receiver it doesn't drop out.

When I first got it, I did some "just for kicks" kind of tests and from about 100-150 feet away standing in the street in front of my house and walking around my yard, I could detect no reception problems with my head and cabinets in my basement. I probably looked kind of odd standing in the street playing a bass but no one complained, to my face anyway. Actually, it also showed me just how loud I get when I turn it up and I've become a more sensitive neighbor. I don't turn it up like that when my neighbors might be around or once evening comes.

I made a mistake I have the Shure PGX4 model. The receiver has a button that you press and it will scan to see what channels are being used by other wireless systems and pick the best one for you to use. As far as dropouts I never had a problem with that but then again I never venture away too far.

I have a PGX4 and found that the low F# note all the way down to the low open B string sound terrible compared to a cable as the wireless seems to just transmit the overtones above it's 45 Hz low end. The fundamental tone is absent.

Bottom line: I'm selling this and going for either the ULX or X2; especially, since I added a 5 string to my arsenal.

I have this unit and I think it works great but I play a four string.
I never had any "overtone" problems as mentioned above.

Outside of the loss of the fundamental tone on the lowest 2-3 notes, I DO think the PGX4 works great. I didn't really notice the problem until the 5 string.
No dropout. About 8 hours of battery. Great range.

I have the same one and it works quite well. Worth the $379 new. you can get get a used one for $220-$250.

I believe there 10 channels that you can synchronize to. My guitarist has one and I have one. We just sync to different channels and there's no interference at all. There hasn't been any "dead spots" that I've notice. One option I really like on the receiver is the boost option. It really helps my guitarist cut through the mix. It clips my bass amp though.

i have been running the sennheiser ew172g2 system for about 6 months now and would not trade it for anything, except going wired which for me isnt always an option. i bough it used so no warranty and now i am having problems that i will discuss on another thread. but i think my problem was our youth kids that were "helping" me load out thursday. anyway, i love this thing and i hope i can fix the problem!
