Yeah, that's horrifying.

Is that one of your basses, David? I'd hate to have that happen to a customer's bass.

It's not one of my basses. I told him to use rubbing alcohol, and that worked. But he has to touch up the tung oil finish.

I was mortified when I saw that. I had three liters of that epoxy. It was from a very reputable firm. I had to throw it out and go back to the stuff I used to use, which is four times the price, but worth every penny in the long run.

Wow, I have liter of that same stuff left. When talking about it over at the pickup makers forum I didn't realize the extent of the problems you had with it. I had a pickup that took a couple days till the tack was gone but nothing like that. I am officially frightened to use it now. What did you move on to, WM ?

I had actually bought more of it, figuring the first batch was bad. I even talked to the guy that used to be the owner, who suggested this elaborate mixing procedure. The second batch seemed OK, but then I started having the problem with it being tacky, and then not drying.

Now keep in mind that the leaking pickup in the photo I posted appeared to have been cured. it was a little sticky, but didn't seem soft and mushy.

The epoxy I use now, and that I used to use, is MG Chemicals Potting Compound. You can get it from Mouser. I've never had an issue with it, and it turns into a solid lump of plastic. It's nylon filled too.

Looks like I'll be getting a tracking number today! Now I just hope that everything about the order is correct - the right size, etc. I'm hopeful! My bass has had black cardboard "pickups" in the soapbar pickup routes while I've been using the MM pickup installed between. I'm looking forward to hearing how a Nordstrand MM and SGD Sidewinders will sound together.

I'm sure I will. I should be able to get vintage MM and vintage Jazz tones, as well as more modern tones since I've got an Audere preamp in the bass as well. I'll be really nice to have this project finished.

Have you played a bass with an audere before? I love how the treble adds clarity instead of harshness.

Only the Yamaha!
It made a lot of difference over the stock pre!
I ordered the sidewinders to see If I can get even more Variation!
Are you using a 3 or 4 band Audere

I'm using a pair of David's ND3-40's with an Audere 3ZB. Pretty damn cool.

I'm using my Sidewinders in a fretless bass with a 4-band Audere 3ZB. They sound nice, but the Audere does have a bit of background noise.

Mine is the 4-band. I like the low and high mid EQ choices. I haven't found the Z-mode switch to be all that useful, though. I need to learn how to adjust it effectively, though.

So, there's noise with the Audere/Sidewinders combo? A lot of noise? Is it when they're soloed or together or both?

It happened with other pickups too. It's kind of a background hiss. The blend setting doesn't make any difference.

I haven't noticed that at all.

Maybe I'm just lucky. In any event, the Sidewinders are awesome.

I'm wondering if your bass is grounded correctly because I don't get a hiss unless I've got the treble dimed in an RF noisy room.
