Love small business owners!!! I have my own one man shop and I am an IT guy who does support for 40 small business's. Small business's are full of hard workers and they know how to reinvent there business even when the government or state of economy gets in the way.....
Now about Dave's pickups... I emailed him a week ago and mentioned that I have a need for a 4 string musicman pickup and was not sure if I should go with a Neo or a Sidewinder. He mentioned that he is working on a MM with Neo on one side and Sidewinder on the other. That solved my dilemma and intrigued me at the same time. Probably will need to wait a while but that is fine.

I got them installed this morning and they sound really good. Definitely on par with Nordstrand, etc. I still need to monkey with the setup a bit, but they're definitely going to work.

I'm actually changing my electronics scheme and will be going all passive, so these Sidewinders will each have a parallel/series switch for more tonal options.

I have not received my pickups that i ordered in early Dec. We have emailed quite a bit. I informed him that i understand his misfortune, but i do not wish to wait any longer for the pickups and would like a complete refund, he will not respond to my request for a refund, but only informs me that the pickups will be finished "soon". I don't believe this is going to go well for me. I am not trying to harm his business, i am sure his product is very good (which is why i paid him to make me some pickups in the first place) but i don't like being treated this way at all.

Rod, lets not leave out that you asked me to install the pickups into wooden cover you sent me, and that the pickups will not fit into those covers, so I was both making a custom size set of pickups and was also going to machine the covers a bit, all for no extra charge.

I would have liked to have them finished sooner, but this isn't an unheard of wait for such an order, and there's not too many places you can even get this done. It was a lot of extra work I was trying to squeeze between standard orders.

But I'll refund your order and send the covers back.

I have had SGD narrow Neo-40s in one of my Spectors paired with an Audere 4 band for about nine months now, and absolutely love the tone. The tone is sort of a happy medium between an old 80's Spector and a vintage Jazz Bass (I'll try and get soundclips when I get some free time). Dave is a great guy to deal with, and the pickups are excellent. Once he gets the Jazz sized pickups back in stock, I'll hopefully be ordering an EMG 40 size replacement for the bridge and a Jazz size neck replacement for my Legend.

Just put a set of NEO's into a fretless 5 string I am finishing up and these pickups sound fantastic. Extremely responsive with a sweet midrange. At first I was skeptical with the price point so low, but these pickups are every bit as good as any of the big names. I paired the two NEO's with an EMG BQC control at 18v and I couldnt be happier. I can understand that someone might hesitate to order if there is a potential for a delay, but IME that is just the nature of a one man business. The trade off is that you get a product that is handmade by a very knowledgeable guy and at a great price.

Glad you like the pickups! I'd be more than happy to charge more money for them, but I felt it was a fair price. They are more than some pickups, and cheaper than others.

The delay in filling orders should be coming to an end very soon. I'm getting caught up on back orders, and have made some changes to get new orders built faster.

I agree! These are great sounding pickups - definitely on par with Nordstrand Big Splits. They're nice and clear, while still being full sounding. I think the thing I like most about them is that the pickups sound good when soloed as well as together. I liked the sound of the Big Splits together but the soloed neck was a bit too clanky/agressive. The soloed neck Sidewinder is woody and open sounding with no clank.

I've got a pair of standard Sidewinders in this bass:

with an Audere 3ZB installed. I A/B'd it against an MIA Jazz and an MIA Stingray and was easily able to cop tones very similar to both basses. With the EQ set flat the Sidewinders sounded just like the MIA Jazz. I just needed to boost the upper and lower mids to get a tone very close to the Stingray. Very nice!

I'll be putting an SGD Neo MM in place of the Nordy MM soon. Then I should be able to get a credible P-Bass tone out of this bass.

I don't think he's a god or God, but he's still trying to recover from the epoxy fiasco. It's going to take time to get caught up and back up to speed, but pretty soon he'll be back to a normal 3-4 week time period for making a set of pickups (maybe even sooner). Regardless, these pickups are definitely worth the wait!
