Exclamation Is a BADASS bass bridge a suitable replacement?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello All!

I have both a '95 Musicman Sterling and '98 Ibanez BTB (jap), and have always been happy with them.
Recently, I have discovered that the BTB's bridge saddles have the screws rusted inside them (ones used to adjust action), and they can't be moved!
I am unhappy with how low I have set this action - as the BTB can get suuuper low action! and it prevents me from good, clear slapping...too much buzz & rattle.

I want to change the action - but fear I need to replace the bridge. Is the BADASS bass bridge a good option (generally) as a replacement bridge?
If so, has anyone got any experience in one of these installed on a BTB?
I'd just like to know if it will suit for string spacing, intonation, etc before going to pick one up.

Thanks again!
JOHN

They rock. I have had them in all of my past Fenders. Get one. But I have no experience with installing one in a BTB.

I suggest applying some penetrating oil and giving it a couple of days to work it's magic - those screws will move eventually, then you won't need another bridge... Here in the US we have PB Blaster or Kroil - either of those would probably do the trick...

The Bad Ass II and III are made to be direct replacements for Fender/Squier Basse. Even if your string spacing on your Ibanez is the same as Fender the bolt patern will most likely be different And require filling in holes and drilling new ones to mount a BadAss bridge. As for the Sterling it might be a drop in replacement But I am not sure maybe someone else has experience with that one.
The original BadAss bridge might fit the Ibanez Don't know if they are still available or not.

If you are going to use PB Blaster or Kroil you might be best off taking the bridge off the bass fiorst so you don't take a chance on ruining the finish on the bass.

If you want extra treble zing the baddass is good choice. If not the hipshot, gotoh, and schaller bridges are better.

PB blaster is good. Zep 45 is even better but pretty expensive
