Bart MM4CBC and NTMB in Stingray?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone combined this pickup and preamp in an EB Stingray? If so, how did it change the sound? Did it even out the string volume?

Thanks,
Tony

Tony-I had a StingRay with weak D&G strings due to poor polepiece alignment. I swapped the stock PU for a Bart MME and the blade polepieces took care of that. At that point I discovered that I didn't like the sound of the stock preamp--harsh, boomy, and clicky.

I'm sure a Bart pre would have taken care of that but I didn't want to spend any more money at that point. In my experience the Laklands with an MM-style Bart PU/preamp don't have that aggressive 'Ray grind that some people like. Unless you absolutely love the 'Ray you might be better off getting a bass that's already got a Bart setup. I have a Pedulla Rapture with a Bart single humbucker/2 band pre that I much prefer to my long-gone 'Ray--it's warmer and smoother.

Thanks Winston, that's what I needed to hear! I already have the Bart preamp so I think invest in the Bart pickup. I like the stock 'Ray grind but it doesn't work for a lot of what I play.
