Bart NTMB "popping" sound

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Folks,

Recently I had a Bart NTMB preamp (which I purchased new in 1998) installed in a MM Stingray, and now it does this strange "popping" thing. I can leave the bass on a stand plugged in with the volume wide open for hours and the bass will not make a sound, but if I pick it up and start playing I'll get a loud "pop" about every 15 minutes. It's as if playing the bass builds up current and the "pop" releases it. I've changed cables, amps, battery and everything I could think of and nothing works. None of this happened with the stock preamp.

Has anyone had this experience? Suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,
Tony

Try typing "4 8 15 16 23 42" and then hit Enter on your computer every 108 minutes. That should keep the popping at bay.

In seriousness, I have no idea what's up. I have the NTMB and it doesn't do that. You might want to check out the wiring or the output jack. Maybe your movement is causing something to make contact that shouldn't.

funny, my G&L started doing the same exact thing. I'd be playing and if I shift the bass on my shoulder, or if I touch the bridge or some other movement, I's hear a snap in the electronics. I looked at all the wiring, checked the ground, shecked the shielding...all OK. Also tried a new cable. Same thing. Changed the battery...no dice.
I had the Preamp replaced in it about 8 years ago. Just started popping about a year ago.

Take it to the person that did the work and ask them to fix it....Done!

I had a similar problem. I thought it was my amp, but it turned out to be my cable. Try that first.

Could be a bad capacitor in the preamp, or just wired up wrong.
