Unhappy bartolini 9j1 L/S pickup problem

Sign in to disble this ad
changed the pickups on my jazz bass from Dimarzio to the new Barts,
new ghs 55-105 flats and noticed that the A string had no
punch and only half as loud. Thought maybe a bad string,
changed set for Dáddario ECB81 45-100 flats, same thing, A string half the volume.
changed to Dáddario XL nickel wound, still the same with the A. All were new strings and the same for both pickups,
Ive tried hight adjustment etc makes no difference.
Anyone else had similar experience?
Maybe the pickups are duff, but both of them.
All replies greatly appreciated.

Smile Bartolini 9J1 L/S problem solved

Thought maybe with pu, turned 180 degrees week spot must be D string.Well tried this on both pu's and still no possitive results, acept the problem cannot now be with pickups.HMMM?
That the Barts have no poles visible its kinda dificult to see the exact mountig pos.well moved neck pu slightly towards
E string, four new screw holes(at first only two) but what the hell, and man bingo. The same with bridge pu,everything is now fine. The sound is amazing, there staying just where they are.
Dimarzio also a terrific pu but at the present like the Barts more,(warmer somehow).
Never have belived that this would make such a diference,
allways something to learn, till next time.

Hi,I was lucky that under the pg was enough room to move
the pu in the direction towards E string.Later had to file a bit
off the pg,that was a small job.Bridge pu was a pain, had to file
a small area from the body(E string side)to acomodate the new position.Worked carefully looks fine and sounds awsome.
Hope this helps,let me know.

Um, I really don't want to do that. That's kind of stupid that I have to do that to get a good sound out of my pickups....

I think I'll return them...

And go with something not Bartolini.

I can realy go along with that.
With me,I live in Germany and got the Barts from a store in US ,so with me it was kinda make or break.
Having said that I'm pleased with the result, man they are
totaly worth the messing around.
I'm happy, but let me know how you get on.
