hi, I´m thinking to change the original pickups to my fender jazz bass american deluxe (1997), with some bartolini pickups... I would like to know your opinion...thanks...cheers!
Sure. Bartolini is good. Do it. Don,t route out original - get Bart jazz replacement. That way you can change back to Fender pups if you have the need.

I put Bartolini 8CBP pickups in my American Fender P, and I hated it. I had the Bass Emporium put them in, with new pots and everything. They sounded way to dark and muddy for me, after one gig my band was very disapointed. I put them on craigslist for sell. I bought some Stewmac for it and had them put in. Better then the stock Fender wonderful old vintage sound. I love them. I dont know about other Bart pickups, but those where not worth the 100 bucks I paid and 40 bucks to have them put in.
I recently replaced the stock 'noiseless' pups on my '01 american deluxe jazz bass with bartolini jazz pickups and I find the sound a lot fuller, with more bottom end. The treble could be a bit more open and project more, but besides that I am happy with my decision. Now I am currently trying to find an appropriate pre-amp to put in the bass in place of the stock fender pre-amp. I am looking at Bart, Aguilar, and Mike Pope pre-amps. Any suggestions?
Passive JB bartolinis are so good with a preamp. I dont recommend using them passive, you will lose a half of the output in comparision with a traditional jazz pickup. It seems like Bartolini manufactures passives Jazz Bass with low output with the intention of sell you his preamp after (he´s not a fool)
