bartolini CBC question

Sign in to disble this ad
This may sound kind of stupid but I want to know if the Bart. CBC pickups can be wired so I can run them single or dual coil? I know the Nordstrands have to be ordered paralel or series. Not sure how the Barts are wired. Also the discription of these pickups say they are passive. Does that meen I shouldn't run a preamp with them? Thanks in advance.

My bass with one CBC dual is wired with a series/parallel/single coil switch. The instructions for different wirings comes with the pickups and is probably on the Bartolini website as well. They are great pickups. They are passive like any other passive bass, so you can use a preamp if you want to but it isn't necessary.

Thanks. I'm thinking of rodding out my lakland 5501 w/ the MK5CBC barts and either an Audere pre or the NTMB pre. I know that I want to be able to run either single or dual coil. Any suggestions on what pre would go better with these pickups?

I think both pres would do very well with these pickups. They will be a little different in how they deal with them, though, as the Audere uses an active blend. I have used a separate buffer to blend pickups before the NTMB. This may or may not matter to you, though. Ultimately, they are both different flavors, equally valid.

The Audere will probably be clearer sounding, but the negative interpretation of that might be sterile.

The NTMB will be a little more versatile, since it does have selectable midrange frequencies.

HTH!
