Bartolini DC pickups marked 83RU6DC

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently picked up a mid 90's 5-string Carvin bass that has Bart pickups in it from another bass. On the rear of the pickups it says 83RU6DC-N and -B (obviously neck and bridge).
They're 2-wire and I'm assuming dual coil from the DC. Anyone have any knowledge what the character profile if these pickups may be? I think the seller said they may have came out of a Zon 6-string. I believe they are Blade style pickups under the shells where the string to string volume and tone seem very even.
They're radiused and have dimensions of 4 1/2 x 1 1/8" which i've not found examples of anywhere.

Past owner just verfied that the pickups are out of a Zon Sonus TJ-6 and apparently are similar to soapbars in some Tobias basses.

The bass doesn't appear to have had the routes modded at all.

Not sure I can be of much help, but 83 is the maximum total string spacing in mm, RU is the name of the model, 6 means that it is intended for use in 6 string basses. The top radius is 16 in.
Those pickups were used in older Tobias basses, I used to have some old catalogs both of Tobias basses and Bartolini pickups. I am almost sure they are dual coil with blade magnets, as this is the most usual configuration for bart soapbars.

I'm sure the pickups are blade style. They're on a 5-string and there's no problems at all with uneven string volume, etc. I have no problem with blade stype pickups. Kind of like that style in fact.

Now I wonder what the RU model name stands for. :-)

Thanks for the input.

I just found a PDF where the RU model pickups are shown with dimensions and the dimensions are correct.

I really would like to know where the "RU" comes from, too. Pickups manufacturers can get very creative when naming models...
