So I've finally decided on one of these two sets of pickups for my bass build: http://www.bestbassgear.com/bartolini-g6-pickups.htm
I'm not going for a particular sound so that's out of the question, but I need help deciding on what pair to choose. Basically, I want whichever will be most versatile with an onboard preamp. Or if for whatever reason they're not compatible with a preamp (no clue why they wouldn't be, but whatever), how would I wire them to get the most variations in sound? I was thinking maybe like a jazz bass. Thanks, once again; this forum has been incredibly helpful throughout this project. |

I know they can be used with preamp - I'm choosing to go passive, though.
Good luck with your decision, and have fun!

I've been leaning towards those ones as well, because they're cheaper and it sounds to me like they might suit groups I'm likely to play with better (you never know from online descriptions though). Thanks! I'm already having fun with it; spent three hours yesterday carving the sides of the bass down and it's been pretty enjoyable. |

I should have some sound data next week, hope to install them this weekend.

Initial impressions - completely quiet.
I'd describe them as "extremely articulate".
I'm not sure about "growly" - they've got some growl, but not over the top. Still need to spend more time playing them.
But I definitely like them.
