Bartolini Deep Tone vs. Classic Bass

I did search and found a couple helpful things, but I'd like to hear your experiences with these types of Barts. What are the main tonal differences? I like a sound similar to Tony Grey, Janek, Bona ect. burpy bridge pup, rolled off tone, maybe bump the mids to taste. I'm planning on running them passive. Any help is great!

imo, the pickup doesnt even really matter that much when youre using that blanket over the speaker sound.

I try both in a Fender MIM jazz bass (Now I keep the Classics).

The classcis 9CBJD1: (Best option, for me)
smooth bottom not dominating, strong punchy mids, very
crisp well defined highs

The Deep Tone 9J1 (sometimes disappears in the mix)
Dominating smooth bottom, strong low mids, muted highs.

The problem with the bartolini pickups in pasive mode, is that they have Very low output; maybe half of average.
You will need a preamp!!!!
like a TC3 bartolini Preamp for a better output.

It is, in fact, a sound you can get with most any bass (with a bridge pickup) and any rig!!!

Yea I'm figuring that out, maybe because it was so hard to get that sound with the MTD I had that I thought there was a "magic" pickup for that. But what I'm hoping for is a pickup that I don't have to roll the tone knob totally off, seems like the deep tones might be better for that but then again I don't what the lows out of control.
