Bartolini or Delano preamp with Delano pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
I just put Delano pickups in my Warwick FNA Jazzman 5 string fretless. Qaud coil for the bridge. They KILL !!!!

I was ready to order a Delano pre but BestBass is out of stock.
I have a Delano pre in another bass and it also kills!
I have had Bart pre's in the past but it has been a while and they were with basses that had Bart pre's so that sets the tone.

The Delanos are super clear. I started thinking that maybe the Bart pre might add some nice " color " for a little fatness/warmth [ not that the Delanos are not warm.]

Any thoughts regarding these two preamps in this bass would be appreciated.

I was hoping to have seen some replies

I would have, but I haven't tried the Delano and I've only used a bart with barts... and that was 10-15 years ago.

I have a single Delano in the sweet spot of my fretless. I love it! I would go with an Aguilar before putting in the Bartolini.

Delano pre is very natural sounding, not cold or sterile, just neutral. In right bass it is choice hard to match at price point.
Delano PU/pre are almost always great step up, but if only choice is Bartolini, I would have no problem with that.

Ended up trying both a Bartolini and a Delano in this bass. The Delano is by far the best.

Glad to see some feedback on the Delano pre. I've had a few different Delano's p/u's with different pre's,

Delano + Bart = ok
Delano + Sadowsky = juicy booty
Delano + Glockenklang = Full Range clarity in a very good way

Definately let us know how that goes. I have a Brute with Bart 59j's and NTMB pre. At first didn't care for it, but it's growing on me. Would like to try something else however.

Report is very welcome here on Talkbass.
Delano + Glock should work great.
