Bartolini Jazz Pups Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased a set of 57 CBJD L1/S1 5 string J Pickups to put into my 97 USA Fender standard V jazz. I am trying to decide whether or not to install a an Audere pre or not to go along with them. I am concerned that the Barts will not have enough power/volume/tone without being paired with a pre. Anyone have any advice for me about these pickups? I really like passive tone but I am this bass to have some serious kick. Will I be able to get that loud punchy tone without a pre? My experience with these dual coil barts is that they are a little on the quite side being purely passive. Please help me out!!!

Cheers!

Well, I put a set of barts in my MIM Jazz. Not sure of the model # (I got them used) but I know they are split coil. I got a decent signal out of them but I put in an Audere and it was a huge improvement but still retained the passive vibe with the EQ flat.

I also wired them both in parallel into 1 input due to the whole blend knob volume reduction issue. It opened up the sound a lot. It was like taking a blanket off my cab.

I am doing some studio work tonight with them and will let you know how it turns out.

I have those exact pickups in my Fender AmDlx with a Bartolini preamp. The preamp is active passive but when I go passive the tone is still great and the volume is pretty loud. If you're used to louder basses you may have to turn your amp up but I think they produce a loud enough signal running passive.

Audere

Hey Guys, thanks for responses! I ended up caving in and ordering an Audere pre. I won't get to install it for another month, as I'm currently in Tel Aviv and won't be home till late July. Although I think the pre is gonna open the barts way up.
