Bartolini Mk-1-5 Hello. I just bought an Ibanez SR605, it comes with Bartolini MK1-5. I would like to change them for something that will make it sound more like a Kevin Smith (a more compressed, thick, low-mid sound) ... Any sugeestions? Thanks! |
I believe the pickups are MK-1's which are the Korean versions. Not the same as the US version of that pickup which is an MK-5. Ken Smith has specially designed pickups and preamps that give it their sound, which is quite 'burpy' in the midrange. Don't know if they sell them separately. Personally, I'd put US Bartolini MK-5's (or Norstrand) pups and a US Bartolini preamp in there. The preamp may be fine though. |
I have mk-5's and an acg 01 pre in a sr505....tonal heaven.... |
You left the MK1-5 and changed the preamp? |
nope changed both... |

Wow! For a Nordtram preamp = around $200. http://www.bestbassgear.com/nordstra...nd-preamp.htm# And for the MK5s is $100 each! http://www.bestbassgear.com/bartolini-mk5-pickups.htm If the bass costs about 500 ... seems expensive! |
yea but my bass sounds like a $2000 one now....did not even spend 900 total.... |

Do you have a link for the preamp? How did you find it? |

try just the pre first, then pickups if it still is not what you are looking for. |

Anyway...I have MK5's with Audere pre's in both my Laklands. Wire up those MK5's with a 3 way switch for inner/outer/series and you can out-tone just about anything. |
