Bartolini MK1 pickups and pre info

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm wondering, the pickups are described as being "in line humbuckers" does this mean they are like an in line (as opposed to an off set) P Bass pickup?

I've heard that the pre isn't highly regarded but just "OK" is that your take??

I have a few basses with the mk1 pups. One of them has a different pre though and it sounds much better and gives me more control over my tone. The mk1 pre will do but if you want to be ble to cover any type of music and not just a select few change it. I don't feel a need to change the pups though, they are pretty good.

I would switch the pre as periority.. The pickup is a bit unbalanced.. It sounded ok but worsen as the strings wears.. Imho .. Different frm my jazz .. I could play years with that same ol dud set of strings..

That sounds about right. Something like this under the cover:

Yes. It's better than a kick in the crotch.
It functions, but there's really nothing about it to make it buzzworthy like an East or Aguilar. It's a basic, 3 band pre that's in almost everything made by Cort.

What is the pre that you (anybody) would recommend?
and why... I'm thinking the Bart 5.2 or the Aguilar both 3 band 5 knob.

I play finger style... no slap at all.

I put a US Bart 5.2A/P in my Lakland 55-01. The stock pickups are ok but I need to be able to open up the bass a bit more. Hopefully some Nordies will do the trick.

I had a 55-01 with the Aguilar OBP-3 and it was nice. But the pickups were upgraded to Nordy Big Splits and I think that was a better move (personally, I've found all Barts to sound dull and clunky).

The OBP let the natural tone shine through pretty well. Some people don't like the bass boost, it's a bit huge. But Bart preamps are the same, if you ask me.

Well the US Bart pre has less boost than the stock pre which I thought was horrid. Definitely a bit more transparent and less colored! Boost is not as severe!

I had a Bart 5.4 pre in another Bass (it had a stack Jazz in the neck position and a MM in the MM position) and I lost interest after awhile (the search for "that perfect tone" is eternal) the next Bass had a East MMSR TBT two band with a Nordy 5.2...

I have a 55-01 and I don't really want to go crazy with it (up grading a Lakland isn't like upgrading an SX.....) I guess I need to play it live before I think on it much more.... btw It records very well.
