Bartolini PJ pups
How do these sound without a preamp?
Would appreciate some feedback.

Awesome!
I don't think anything Bartolini makes sounds anything less than great, pre-amp or not. I have always run them passive. If the J-PU is humbucking, you can avoid the hum if you have the need to solo it.
