Basslines SSB-5 vs. EMG 40 HZ
I'm looking for pickups for a fretless (EMG 40 shape), and due to my current budget my options are SD Basslines SSB-5 passive soapbar and the EMG 40 HZ. I'm gonna go well below B, so I want a clear low end and well defined, growly notes. I have the HZ's on a fretted and they sound close enough to what I want, though they kinda lack presence in a mix. I've yet to test them on the fretless, but from what I read the HZ's lack presence and character anyway. So are the SD's up to the task or am I better off with the HZ's and a compressor or something?
