Best Jazz Pickup for Thomastik Flats
I am midway into a build of a Jazz Bass. It will be passive for now, and I will be using Thomastik Flats. The body is alder and the neck a Warmoth Maple on Maple. I want pickups that will bring out the best in what the Thomastiks offer. What I love about Thomastik flats is their musical midrange.
I was thinking Lindy Fralin Vintage single coil pickups. But after reading some descriptions, it seems that Fralins, which are known to be detailed in the midrange, are not particularly fullsome in the low frequencies. Maybe the Fralins and the Thomastiks are too much alike. Perhaps too much of a good thing.
As an alternative I am considering Nordstrom NJ4se pickups since I already have the bridge pickup. I have found the NJ4se to be a bit on the beefy side. But perhaps that will balance out the midrange tone that I would get from the TI Flats.
Does anyone have an opinion, or experience with this combination? Alternate selections would be welcome too.
