Best OBP for modern tone

In your opinion, what is the best onboard preamp for a ultra modern tone and why? This would be for a 4 string Squier with a modulus neck. Thank you.

What do you mean by "ultra modern tone"? Most people saying "modern tone" are thinking about the 1980's and SWR. But it's 2013 now and "modern music" uses mostly synthesizers for bass. Modern bass guitarists use whatever tone gets them the gig.

So what is ultra modern for you?

Exar's business is on hold for now. I will still help previous customers.
