tl;dr: What's a more vintage p-bass sounding pickup that I can drop in on a 2009 Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub with a chi-sonic?
Single coil chi-sonic on my 2009ish (bought it used) sounds fine when I'm playing but gets smoked by any sort of actual vintage p-bass pickup. I've been in the studio a bit lately and it hums and buzzes like nobody's business when I'm trying to be silent.
Tried a few of the studio vintage p-basses and they all have some single-coil hum but none of the buzzing. This is after having the folks at My Music Store in Golden Valley, MN reground and shield the crap out of the pickup cavity. Output is also really low compared to either of the vintage p's they had me try at the studio instead. Here's the thing, the lakland has an amazing neck and I have guitarist's hands/wrists
I have it setup just so with a set of TI Jazz flats and a Fender would have to be one of them hard to find wide-neck beasts of old to be a good replacement. So I'd rather just find electronics I like and drop those in vs getting a different bass entirely. Also it's a knock-you-over beautiful translucent sunburst on ash body
Any good favorites. I know it's a stretch but best would be a passive humbucker or reverse split single ala a Fender 62.
