I've been wanting to trick out my P-Bass for a year or so and I'm finally pulling the trigger - Bill Lawrence pickups, Badass II bridge, Hipshot... yeah.
On a different note, I had a great conversation with Becky on the phone. She was so sweet... |

It took a bit of adjusting to get the A string in balance with the others... but it sounds good now and I really like the sound.......
I know that the overlap is a No-No... but it still sounds good, not a diffrent tone from the A string and all it took was a little pickup height juggling.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Alameda, CA | | | The pickups showed up yesterday! The question is: do I bother wiring up the split pickup, putting on the Badass bridge and the Hipshot for my gig tomorrow, or do I wait and have the shop that's routing the J pickup in do it later in the week?
I REALLY want to put the new stuff on tonight, but it's probably smarter to wait, even though it's KILLING me to sit here with all the parts.
Help! |

I'll try to remember to do some before and after clips for y'all |

Pending postal details from Wilde pickups, I hope I can get it before Christmas. After all, I live in the other side of the world.

WOW! Man alive, this thing sounds SO great! Nice and deep, even with the tone wide open. The bass speaks really well now and it's not nearly as barky as it was with the original pickup in (mid-80's Japanese P-bass). I uploaded an mp3 of the bass direct with no processing. The first bit is the tone maxed, the second is the tone rolled off 1/3-ish and the third is the tone at zero. I love it
All I need now is to adjust the pickup height and blah blah blah, but I think I'll let the pros handle the set up as I'm planning on dropping at SF Guitarworks on Tuesday to have the Hipshot put on and the J pickup routed and wired in. I can't believe that after a year or so of talking about this, I'm finally pulling the trigger and making this bass SING http://davelionelli.com/backdoor/bil...ce_pickups.mp3 |

In any event I think you'll enjoy them very much. Hope they get there quick.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Alameda, CA | | For anyone who cares (probably not too many but me...), all the work was completed and I picked up my "new" bass yesterday. Here's a quick rundown:
It's a mid-80's MIJ Precision and I had SF Guitarworks put in a set of Bill Lawrence Wilde pickups. They routed a cavity for the J in standard 60's position and I added a BadAss bridge. Here are before and after shots:
And here's a comparison - the left speaker is the original Fender pickup, the right speaker is the new Bill Lawrence pickups. At the start, both pickups are full (right channel), I soloed the P pickup at 1:00 (2nd verse), and I soloed the J pickup at 1:35 (bridge). You can listen here: http://davelionelli.com/backdoor/sta...comparison.mp3
The bassline is from a tune I wrote and recorded a couple years ago - for those of you that are interested, you can here the original version (with the old pickup in the mix) here: https://soundcloud.com/davelionelli/stax-of-love
I'd love to hear what you think of the pickups and the track!

| | (aka Greg Harman) | | Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Dunbar, West Virginia | | | I have a quick question. I would like some feed-back from those of you who installed P46's as to what capacitor you are using and how much range of tone you obtain from it. While I love the tone I am getting from my P46 I am not particularly happy with the range of tone I am getting from my capacitor.

Been very busy at work, only just put it in and tried it out briefly. Initial impression good balance, good clarity and much more polite than the Dimarzio Model P.
