Question Building my own preamp!

Sign in to disble this ad
This is what i want to do:
I plan on buying a warmoth body/ neck to do a frank en build arround.
I want to build a preamp that would have a Avtive/passive switch as well as High/low boost/cut options I woudl like to incorporate the typical jazz system

My control set up would be
Volume- Volume- Tone- Low boost/cut- High boost/cut

Sorry if this made sense. I tried to explain it was best possible.

I'm not sure if you are talking about building an onboard preamp from scratch or buying one. I can't help you build one but would reccomend against it as there are many wonderful real-world tested pres out there. ie.

BARTOLINI
AGUILAR
JOHN EAST
ACG (FILTER)
GLOCKENKLANG
DELANO
NORDSTRAND
EMG

Check out www.bestbassgear.com for all these.. Brain will help you get what you want.

Do you have any experience building electronics from scratch?

i made one, a copy of the MM SR type, and stuffed it into a cheap bass with a battery.
It sounded pretty damn good too, because the pig had 2 x V and 2 xT controls, i used the Tone controls for the common High/low boost/cut.
You will need to fit a switching type jack socket to switch the preamp on when the lead is plugged in.
