Building your own preamp...

I want to design/build my own preamp. I have never done it before, so I plan to do my research and buy extra components for practice. If anyone can point me in the direction of a book, video, person etc... that could help me learn I would appreciate it. Also, any personal knowledge would be helpful.

There is no book that I know of..

my advice would be to collect as man schematics as you can.

All electronics are built very modular, so I would find things you like in an amp and combine the stages or modules to find a sound you like.

and example.

I liek the tone circuit from the svt, but the power circuit from the eden. I will combine them.

its alot more complicated then that but thats the gist.

oh, and go with the best components you can think of.

placement in the chassis is important.

Are you talking about a preamp in the bass or one that is part of the pre/power amp chain? Actually, both of these types are discussed in the diyAudio Forums.
