Buying Legacy/Lane Poor pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
Could someone give me an idea of how to order the new Legacy pickups. I have been trying for about 2 months now and have gotten one email with a price list. I have sent about half a dozen emails asking for information on ordering. Nothing. Would someone with experience please chime in and let me know what I am doing wrong. I just want to spend money..lol

Thanks,

Do they have a phone number?

I LOVE the legacy MM pickup in my Flea 5, just as good as the original LP soaps I had in my old quantum.

Hey Jake, yeah I need a couple of sets for basses I just got. I left a post on facebook. That is how I got the price list but it has been almost a month of email attempts and no response. Maybe I should try sending a letter to the PO box they have listed as a contact?

Maybe someone will who has bought something recently will speak up.

Perhaps. Its a peculiar challenge when as a customer you are wanting to give a company your money and they're dropping the ball. Commerce is a 2 way street ;-)

Although, the way I look at it is: if its like pulling teeth just to get them to sell you the thing, imagine what its like to get them to respond to a service issue or a technical question. I don't have any personal experience with this company, I'm just sayin

The LP Pickup Co.

Hi, I really want to thank Matt for leading me to this thread.
This past year has been a challenge. Honestly I didn't set out to reopen the shop. I just wanted to save it from being lost. everything just sat for years collecting dust. when the website was gifted to me I intended to tell the story of The Lane Poor Music Co.

Word of mouth worldwide has resulted in more interest than I had imagined. There has been a lot to do this past year but the critical stage is past us. The biggest thing now is handling sales.
I am not the best web/email/forum guy. So, I could use professional help in that area. I won't just take your money. I make each pickup proudly with love for the craft.

Dan S, I'll write you in about 5 minutes.

My intent is to help bassists get the LP pickups they want.
running a business is a skill I'm learning
thanks everyone,
Henry

Thank you Henry, and thank you for the email. I am looking forward to installing and reviewing the pickups you're making from Lane's design.

When you mentioned that you had "more interest than I had imagined.", in Legacy it reminded me of some friends I met this summer who worked for Fender in Fullerton during the 60's. I use to buy/sell/trade vintage instruments back in the 90's. I was relating to them the prices of old strats and tele's. They were astounded! To say the least, they kept repeating in disbelief, "for a strat?" "People pay THAT much for a strat?" lol I mention this because I suspect that you may not have been privy to the aftermarket prices of Lane's pickups after he stopped producing them. I personally have sold some for at least 3 times what they were selling for back in 2000. Not only is there STILL a lot of interest but I believe a market that would support your business for the rest of your life. I also believe without introducing anything new with the line offered.

So again I am very much looking forward to receiving the couple of sets I have ordered and working with you in the future.

On a side note I am not sure how often you use this forum but would suggest frequenting it. There is a wealth of useful information and very a well informed membership of professionals in the musical instrument business and musicians who would be happy to support you in your building of your company.

Thanks Jake and I completely agree with you. I'm going to give them a try, besides you know these pickups are "CRACK". I have a good feeling about this new company.

Well as of today I haven't received my pickups from Legacy. I was told initially the lead time would be 5-10 days. When I didn't get a tracking number or any response for that matter I posted on the facebook page and got an email on the 27th of November that the pickups would ship on Friday December 3rd. I still haven't seen any pickups or even a tracking number confirming something has been shipped.

I also waited over 45 days to file a complaint with Paypal so I wont get any help from them to refund the money I sent.

I was wrong in thinking I would receive anything in a reasonable amount of time or at least the time told to me by the pickup maker. I started this process the beginning of September and being almost the middle of December I am left with nothing but over $500 paid for a product that hasn't been delivered.

I can't post a review of the pickups since I don't have them but I can post my experience with the company so far.

Would anyone on the board have a phone number for this company? I'm tired of waiting for an email response.

Wow, did the company go out of business or am I being shafted?..lol

Bump for anyone who can help me get my hardware or money back. I never had to deal with this sort of thing before and not sure where to start. Should I file a complaint with the local DA?

Thanks,

I've sent several emails, and Facebooked with no reply. I've given up and am talking to Kent Armstrong. If you can't get your money back, I'd take it to small claims court. I hope you got a receipt of some sort. It's uncannily familiar, as I heard Lane had gotten into drugs and that was the demise of the original company, although that may or may not be true (just a rumor).

Thanks, I guess I'll have to. I'm just going to get some Bartolini pickups made. That was going with Barts before I learned they were making lp's again.

Good thing the restaurant I play at on Friday nights is next to the courthouse and is the place all the judges and attorneys hang out..lol

Sorry to hear the product was never delivered; maybe this thread will be forwarded to Henry and he will make good on them.
However when a man says "I won't just take your money. I make each pickup proudly with love for the craft" and then doesn't deliver in a reasonable period of time with no communciation, one would have to write him off as a dead beat flake. Perhaps we need a Lane Poor sticky to go along with Dr. Bass and any other liars and cheats that want to pollute our passion.

Yeah I don't get it. Why would someone do this? I was excited that LP's were being made again but I guess I will just have to try the used market if I want some. Until then Bill Bartolini will be getting some business.

Sounds Like Lane Poor Business as usual. Great pickups, impossible to get, Flaky people.
Fail.
