BUZZ in '76 Precision with Basslines

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All,

Need some help diagnosing a serious buzz issue. I have a 1976 Precision in which a previous owner installed SD Basslines and new pots/wiring. Here are the details: 76 Precision, unshielded cavity, Basslines pickup, Newer Dimarzio pots and orange ceramic cap, Switchcraft jack. Ground wire to the bridge is intact and electrically connected.

This is one serious buzz, much louder than your typical ground hum. It does lessen with hands on the strings/bridge. If I touch the pole pieces of the treble side of the pickup the buzz increases, if I touch the bass side of the pickup the buzz does not change. I bypassed the pots and cap by wiring to a new CTS pot, but the buzz was still there. To clarify, pickup wired to new CTS pot to output jack still buzzed.

Could this be an issue in the pickup windings? Pickup has good output and sounds musical except for the nasty buzz.

Cheers,

SS
