Buzz after pickup change

Sign in to disble this ad
I swapped out the P pickup of a P/J Squier tonight and now I get quite a bit of buzz unless I am touching the strings or the pot shafts (I have taken the knobs off). I checked the continuity with a multimeter and I am getting no resistance between the bridge and jack ring and between the pot casing and jack ring. This seems to happen on either pickup. I tried reseating the ground wire under the bridge, but no improvement. I am no expert, but it sure sounds like a grounding problem I just can't figure out how to find it. It did not have this problem prior to changing the pickup, and even on the J pickup, which I did not change, it has this buzz unless I touch the strings. Any ideas?
