| Buzz In The House

Here's one for any electrical wizzes out there. Have a problem in my house with a buzz from my amp. I am a newbie, just beginning to learn to play. I purchased a new Dean EVO-XM bass, a new monster cable and a used Fender Rumble 15 amp. In order to get a listenable volumne level, I find I need to turn the amp's volumne knob at least three quarters of the way up, usually more, and the bass's two volumne knobs just about all the way up. However, I'm getting a buzz through the amp. Worse, I can't turn the bass's tone knob on at all without making the buzz all the louder. I noticed if I moved the bass around, the buzz with change in pitch, get louder, softer, depending on how I turned it. Figured there might be a problem with the bass's input jack, so I took it to Guitar Center, where I purchased it, however there was no problem with the bass there. All solder connections were fine and it played buzz free. So, is it the amp? Took the amp, my cable and the bass back to Guitar Center. Everything worked fine there. No buzz. Took the entire rig to my work and it played fine there. Must be my house's wiring? Tried using a Furman power conditioner. No help. My home's alarm system has a couple of wireless connections. Disconnected the whole alarm systen, removed battery back-up and all wireless transmitter batteries. Still no help. Have a home internet set-up (wired, not wireless). Disconnected all of that, but again no help. Someone suggested connecting a ground lift to the amp. Tried that, still no help. Anyone have any other ideas or would purchasing a larger wattage amp that I don't need to turn up so high help? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |
