Question buzz/hum... ground problem? (central coast CA)

Sign in to disble this ad
my fender musicmaster hums when plugged into my amp. when i put my finger on the 1/4 inch jack the hum almost completely goes away. when i put my finger on the strings the hum increases in volume. in attempts to fix this i have:
  • - opened the internals up and checked for loose wiring - no help
  • - re soldered the ground wire - no help
  • - stuck the ground wire on the metal bridge - no help
  • - tried different outlets - some help... i noticed the hum changes when other things in my room are turned off/on

could be bad electrical in my house... i don't know. any advice? should i take the bass to a specialist? anyone know of any in central coast california?

Sounds like you've covered the basics but you can skim FAQ Dimento's Trouble Shooting Guide regardless and something may strike you in there.

Computer monitors, dimmer switches, flourescents lights, radio stations, on and on can create interference but if it only changes and doesn't stop that it's obviosly not the only source of the problem. You could try shielding the bass (she FAQ Caldwells shielding thread) if your up for it but hum increasing when you touch the strings is typically an indication of a bad ground.

I'm guessing you don't know how to get into FAQ then cause hard to imagine overlooking that thread otherwise.

At the top of the threads on the 1st page of this forum (probably every page I guess) it's says: Read this first: FAQ. You click on that and it pulls up all the stuff in FAQ which is good stuff to skim all of just to get an idea of what's there caue probably whatever you need to know is in there and you don't have to wait to get a response that may not be coming.

I could post the link to that particular thread but you really need to know how to get into FAQ more.
