I just upgraded the pickups in my squier ss jag to bartolinis and added a Bart pre (and strung it up ADGC ) and the sound is killer... BUT there's this barely audible buzzing crackling noise that REALLY increases in intensity (becoming really bad) when I touch the strings, bridge or tuning pegs. It also gets louder if I touch something metal while touching the strings. However, if I touch the control plate or pots (not the plastic knobs but the metal) or even the cord, it gets almost dead silent .. I tried to search but just got more confused... thanks in advance for the help

It's a problem with the ground wire that goes from the electronics to the bridge.

Often this happens because the jack is wired backwards (so that your bridge is connected to hot rather than ground).

Yep, the jack is soldered the wrong way around. Had this on a telecaster for a while there.

a backwards jack would cause the knobs and the rest to become "hot" (and thus noisy), too.

i'd look at bridge grounding.
