Bypassing Fender P-Bass Special & Schecter Stiletto Elite 5 Preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all. I have never really been happy with the active electronics in my MIM Fender P-Bass Special and Schecter Stiletto Elite 5. I have been thinking of wiring these basses to bypass the active electronics and go passive. Any thoughts on doing this? Will I notice a difference in tone just from bypassing the electronics? I'm clueless on this one so any responses, pros or cons, are greatly appreciated.

It will definitely sound different, I know that much.

One time I did this with an Ibanez 5-string. I de-soldered the hot leads of the pickups from the preamp and wired them straight to the jack.

It will probably sound darker. Some people equate that as "warmer". But generally boosting a little low end and maybe even rolling off some highs on the preamp will do pretty much the same thing.
