cable connector flaking metal chips?

I bought this Ibanez cable a couple months ago and the connector is flaking all kinds of metal chips off of it.. somehow I was thinking they would like uh, use solid metal instead of just painting some metal on..

What is this crap? does it need to go in the garbage?

Nickel plating coming off - I'd suggest you should take it back and demand a refund! It should last a lot longer than that!
