Callin All Jazz Bart Users

I want to put bartolini's in my Fender jazz. Don't know which ones to get, here r the contestants....
9S, 9J1 or 9CBJD1....

I have the 59CBJD's in my Lull 5-string, and I really like their sound. Unfortunately I don't have any experiences with any of Bartolini's 4-string models for Jazz-style basses.

Brian Ristola of Ristola Instruments and Best Bass Gear is very knowledgeable about Bartolini's, I recommend that you email him or give him a call.

I have the 9CBJD1 dual-coil humcancelling ones in my Fender. To me they sound great.

They are pretty low output, and seem "mid-scooped" to my ears, but I think that's just because I'm used to hot midsy pickups. And the highs are killer.

To me they sound like the quintessential classic jazz pickup without any noise or clicky-clacky exposed poles.

These are in my Main Modulus VJ with a boost only pre and I love it. Punchy as sin...

I'd say don't do it.

I find Bartolinis to sound too hi-fi and rubbery for my liking, and I think it would completely take away the signature J-bass sound.

If you don't want your Jazz to sound like a Jazz anymore, though, do it.

Heh. That's exactly what I love about the bart 9j's. They are amazing in a fretless jazz.

If you don't want your Jazz to sound like a Jazz anymore, though, do it.

What other factors were involved when you got this sound? Active preamp or strictly passive? What kind of strings, amp, preamp were involved with help in the decision factor.

By rubbery sounding, do you mean it made your strings sound less metalic and more nylon, rubberband sounding?
