Can anyone help me find the right J pickups?

Yo guys. I'm looking for new pickups for my fender Jazz. The metal bits are getting rusty and the neck pickup has pole under the A string that for some reason comes up a little highr than the others. So when I slap the A string it always hits the metal piece and makes a nasty noise from the amp.

I play alot of Jazz and funk and im also into rock and alternative type stuff so im looking for pups that are good with that. I saw the EMG-Js and it looks like those would solve my slapping problem but i was wondering if anyone knows of any better ones for the sound im looking for. my price range is $150-200. Thanks

I just installed a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity 1's in my Jazz and it is definitely more balanced and smooth...deeper bass, smoother mids and nice bright chime in the highs with less shrillness. They get consistently great reviews so I bought them and am am very pleased.

Bartolini springs to mind, but I'm not sure if they have as much "sparkle" as you're looking for. They're pretty deep.

You are giving us a pretty broad range of sounds to recommend pups for...

I am a big fan of Stan Hinesley's Hot J pickups. You can find them here:

to narrow it a bit, i like the crunch of the fender pups and I like the slap i get out of them as well. i dont want to deviate too much from the sound the originals have but i definitely want to upgrade. i want to try and get rid of a bit of the hum and maybe get rid of the exposed poles

Im not sure if anyone here has ventured into the world of Rio Grande City Pickups, but they make a jazz set that slays

And they have a couple different versions as well

http://www.riograndepickups.com/scar...e=FOR+J%2DBASS

They also have humbucker sets that are rated at 20ohms per pickups.........stand back!!!

Before spending any money, I'd try lowering your pickups first, if I were in your position.

Even plastic covered pickups (like EMGs) will "bang" under heavy slapping, if they're set too high and the strings bounce off them.

Possibly Bartolini 9k#1s fit this description. They're brighter than standard barts.. more treble. No exposed poles. Humbucking.

$140 at BestBassGear.

the problem isnt that im slapping to heavy, its just that 1 of the 8 poles comes up a little bit higher than the rest right under the a string. if i turn off the neck pickup its not a problem but then i dont get as nice of a sound
