Hey! How is everyone?

So basically im planning out a project bass. Iv decided on the woods, (Bubinga body, Wenge neck, Ebony fingerboard, jazz bass) and now im planning on the pickups.

Obviously with this bass i want to try and sound unique, but the type of sound imroughly aiming for is a very fat, thick, full tone. I have no idea on what pickups to buy, or who from. Could anyone recomend some for me to research? It really doesnt matter about configuration, im having the body custom made anyway. So anythin with do that looks half cool!

Also of course i want to hear them first. So do you guys (and girls) know of anywhere i can find audio samples of any pickups? Or anythin like that.

Also if you can, tell me aboutthe pickups you have.

Thanks!

Rowan

You probably would like a pair of the big humbucking pickups similar to the ones used on the Ibanez SRX700 bass. While Ibanez probably won't sell them to you you can buy similar pickups from Seymour Duncan's Basslines division. Or a pair of the humbuckers that G&L uses.

My Ibanez with dual humbuckers will get that sound when the pickups are combined in the right proportion, although that's not the sound I like. I solo the neck pickup for the sound I like.

You might want to also instal an on board Sadowsky preamp. It all depends on your budget.

I never trust sound clips. A lot depends on the recording gear and technique, the strings and the bass player.
