Can Anyone ID this Pickup?

Sign in to disble this ad
This is going to sound nuts, but I bought this pickup from the upright bass player with a band called Kukuruza (circ 2000?) and had it laying around in a box until this week. Never did anything with it. Kukuruza's bass (bassist, Andrei Beslyk, I think) was one of the best sounding basses ever when plugged in. Sounded good plugged in...not when unplugged.
The pickups may be Russian? I have no idea. But I stuck a battery in it and when they are held in place, using one pickup for the G and D, and the other for A and E, it has an excellent sound. They won't work using one pickup under the center of 4 strings.
I'd like to ID the pickups so that if they fail after I've gone to the trouble of installing them, maybe a replacement could be bought? There are no markings on the pickups. The pot has American markings.
Any ideas on what the pickup brand might be?
Thanks, JR

That's what I think they are too. After sitting here for an hour or so, I came up with Schaller PBA 265. I'd guess 12 years plus vintage. The Schaller wiring schematic matches the setup.
At the least, I can buy another set of pickups if they take a crap. I think I'll try to make a bracket for them.
Thanks much for your response! JR

FWIW, I made bracket for the pickups and installed them on my DB. Now I got a big EB. Sounds great. Nice fat level sounds on all 4 strings. Playing it thru a DI hotbox and a stage mixer. Using Tomastik red spiracore.
This makes the bass much more flexible for easy rock and honky tonk. Still suitable for folk and bluegrass unplugged.
And the pickup brackets are stuck on velcro. There are no mods to the bass and the pickup can be removed easily in seconds. Battery is mounted under the bracket on velcro too. Should'a done this years ago!
