can anyone recomend a replacement pup for P bass?

I'm looking for a replacement pup for a 78 P bass. I'd like a big noise free signal, but I don't want to lose the character of the traditional P sound. Anyone had any good/bad experiences with replacing their pup?

I replaced the pups in an Ibanez 405 once with Seymore Duncan basslines and had good results. From what I've read, they make sever replacment models for a P-bass that range from vintage to modern sounding.

Please tell me you're not replacing the pickup in a 28 year old bass.

If the pickup is original, then do yourself a favor and get another bass to mess around with changing pickups.

If the bass is already modified, I recommend you searching this forum for the word "Reverend". Reverend is selling off their old stock parts pickups since they quit making basses. The pickups are a mere $12 and are IMO as good sounding as anything else out there at any price.

Why? Soldering a pickup in/out will make no difference to it's resale providing it's done competently. Put the original in a sealed bag with a silica absorbent bag and store it in case you change your mind later.

I've been working on vintage electronics for years and a retrofittable mod like this is irrelevant (to resale). It's a 78 too, not a 50's model.
