Can I do this?? Push/Pull knob question.

Sign in to disble this ad
Here goes....

I've got a pair of Nordstrand dual coils incoming with an Audere Preamp. I was contemplating installing 2 switches for series/single/parallel operation but decided against the option that would require drilling additional holes and really... I only want the single coils option and could live without series operation.

The Audere preamp volume is wired as a stacked volume/tone control. Can I use a push/pull pot on the balance pot to activate the single coil on both pickups at the same time?

Wire both pickups to the push/pull pot=> over to the volume pot==> back to balance pot then standard wiring scheme. If theres a better way to do this, let me know. Is there a stacked pot with push/pull option...this sounds huge.

Thanks in Advance!

Push/pulls on blends or dual ganged pots are rare. You can do it if you can find the pot, but you might have to search around.

Tips

line6man. I've been scouring the forums and have to say, you are the man . I think, "worst case scenario", I add the switches. I'll see what kind of real estate is available after the preamp install and see if this is even possible. I'd utilize the single coil mod a bit but otherwise I'm good with what would be available. upon review I recall the Audere to have solder less compression connections for the pickups meaning that rewiring a pot to send off to those connections would be way more of a hassle than drilling and installing a switch unless I'm way off on what's going on with this pre.

I'm thinking neck pickup=>3 way switch=>audere/bridge pickup=>switch=>Audere.

I'll wire it up 18V and see what options I may have from there.

If you want to pay a rather large sum of money, you could always aquire the M.E.C. stacked volume/blend. That would allow the tone to be placed next to it and have it push/pull or otherwise. It would be more expensive, but it would allow you to keep the bass without extra holes.
