in order to get another volume pot but it showed up today and has a much smaller base than the other pots I have. The originals are almost 1" wide and these are about 5/8". They are both 25k, will this work and sound alright?
Yep, it'll be fine.
As long as the impedance is the same, you're safe. I once bought 2x 25k pots for my EMG Jazz PU's and eventhough they were different to the original ones, it worked just fine.
