Can I use a regular PUP with with my Warwick(Active EQ)

OK..so I'm a bit new to bass electronics. I have a Warwick fortress. It has active EQ. Can I try any PUP's in it or do they need to be active?
I'm not really sure what the difference between an active PUP and an active EQ is.
I have a Bassline P-bass PUP I would like to try. I love the feel and action of the bass but it could use a bit more thump.
Thanks
