Can someone educate me on this

I'm new to the bass, I have been a guitarist for the past 8 years and have just made the switch to bass. I have question in regards to the electronics in basses.....first off I'm buying a Spector legend 6 with passive emg ssd's and active 2 band EQ tone circut (tone pump Jr.) and I want to replace them with active Emg 45DC's. Is this a easy switch to do and if i do switch to active pick-ups do i still need an active tone circut as well? If I do need this tone circut do you have any suggestions for me as a good fit with the emg 45DC's.

Also whats the difference between a bass with passive pick-ups plus a active tone circut and a bass with active pick-ups

Cheers

In regards to changing out the pickups, I own 2 Spectors, and what I ended up doing was actually asking the guys at www.spectorbass.com what I need to do and one guy offered a suggestion and directed me to the pickups at the EMG website, told me how to install them and even sent me a PDF file with detailed instructions. That's service for ya =)

I went from passive to active, but this was an older model bass before they made the Tone Pump Jr. stuff, so I don't really know what to tell ya with that thing. I'm just trying to say that Spector's customer support may be able to offer the best advice

I know it seems like an ass thing to just put throw a link at you, but it's the best way for me to answer the question regarding active versus passive
