Can someone help me differentiate between parallel and single coil?

I had a 3-way switch installed in my MM sub about a year ago to change between series/parallel/single but i've forgotten which position does what. In the 'up' position, the pickup has the most output and oomph so ive safely assumed this is series. I cant figure out which of the other two is which though.

-In the middle position, the output is the lowest. It has a glassy and clear tone and just a tad thin.
-In the bottom position, the output is right in between the output of the other two positions. The sound is scooped but has a more mids than the middle position.

I reckon the bottom position is parallel but a a definite answer would be greatly appreciated

Parallel is both coils on, wired in parallel. It's generally lower output then single coil and brighter. That's the standard wiring for a MM pickup.

The series position would be the loudest/fullest. You can tell the single coil setting because it will hum.

On three way mini toggle switches, the center position is usually single coil. You can tell which is which by taking something metallic and magnetic, like a screw driver, and tapping the pole pieces. When you reach the position where only one row of poles makes a sound, you found the single coil setting.
