Changing pickups for a restoration

Hi everyone,
sorry if this has already been covered, but I don't think so. I have done a lot of search and haven't found much about this.

Currently, I only use one bass and I don't really need a backup since my band is not at the stage of gigging yet. However, when the time comes, I will HAVE TO bring a backup for every single performance (had some "not so interesting" experiences in the past with active basses (as many people here)). Only problem is, my backup bass will probably be the first bass I ever bought, which has been hanging in a dusty closet for ages now. The brand is GK (never found any information on that brand ) and I believe (I don't remember very well) it is made of maple from body to head, all the way.

Why am I telling you that? Because I'm planning on restoring that bass, since I don't really want to sell it, or buy another one (don't have enough money). Going to refinish it, and after that I definitely want to change the passive pickups on it. The configuration is P/J, and if possible, I'd like to get a .... "creamy, thick" tone with good definition and brightness (??? so easy to define the tone you want ...).

I play mostly rock/alternative music.

Anyone has had good experiences with any P/J pickups and wants to share?

Btw, I have heard good things about those Seymour Duncan ones.. can you tell me more about them?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
